About the artwork;

This image is one of my favorites from my time with Joe photographing for the book, The Art of the Canoe with Joe Seliga. Being very fond of black and white photography, I felt that Joe working in his shop beckoned this choice. However, because only color images were used in the book, this image had never been published until last summer when I decided it was time to share it with others who I knew would appreciate the image.

I took all the prints over to Joe’s house for him to sign and was eager to hear his response to seeing the image for the first time. To my delight, Joe broke out a huge smile and got rather teary eyed. He said, “Oh, this is great. This is wonderful. I look like I am in the clouds, like I am in heaven”.

Needless to say, it was a very auspicious comment indeed and I felt like I had done something worthwhile that would be a small gesture in honoring our special friend Joe.
